All of this talk of side skirts falling off is scaring me! When I posted on vortex, I was told to be sure to use the red-backed 3m mounting tape. From another faq I found, there also appeared to be some screwing involved to hold them in place.

yuval if you install them in the summer they'll be fine its just the cold temps you need the car to basically be in like +20 for a few days for it to stick properly.. i washed my car the day after they got taped and some water prolly got into a crack

ps.. no colin not yet.. i don't have the patience for it anymore lol i'm sorta sick of modding at the moment (actually i just hate wheel shopping)

You use both, 2 screws on each end and tape down the middle. But this is Canada so the tape doesnt hold sometimes.

That sounds good. Wouldn't the screws be enough to hold everything tight, regardless of what the tape is doing?

nope, no matter how tight the screws are, the skirts are plastic and are giong to flex in the middle.

Good to know, thanks!! I wonder how the factory GLI skirts are mounted.

If I had it done again, I would maybe just get them to use screws, then bondo over the screw holes

There are also screws underneath the the skirt (3 of them I believe). I have had to redo my votex skirts a couple of times now. the 3m tape just starts to fail after about 8 months of driving.

Mike, any advice for me, knowing what you know now? I wonder if it would be better to use screws and glue instead of screws and tape. There must be some way of affixing them so they stick! VW is doing the GLIs from the factory and I can't imagine the side skirts are falling off of those every 8 months.

Yes, mine have been fine. Even slipped with the jack once and bent the metal underneath, still holding! Elite Autobody
