Yeah I read about those a month or so ago.
When they are released they will have a sidewall though, and resemble a regular tire. They are just showing them looking all wacky for PR and also for testing purposes.
Supposedly the big disadvantage is that the tire needs to be bonded to the rim using a fairly permanent process.
Another concern is weight, and this relates to performance. Some may prefer an air tire if it is lighter and performs better. I do not think this sort of airless tire will completely take over!Last edited by Kor; 03-10-2005, 02:14 PM.KR

Back full circle indeed.
I wonder how the metal reverts back to it's original form after it's been bent hundreds of times.
I wouldn't be surprised if that's lighter than a normal wheel - modern tires are full of metal already and there's a lot of open space there.

They'd be pretty cool if they could make them really stiff laterally to mimic really stiff sidewalls.
