  • Suspension Questions from the new guy

    Hey everyone,

I hope you guys can help. I want to upgrade the suspension on my Jetta but I'm having a bit of trouble deciding which way to go. I'm wondering if you could give me some info on what your running and how they work on the streets of Calgary.

There are just too many choices, but one thing is for sure, I have to get rid of the 4X4 look on my Jetta.

I wouldn't mind getting together with you when I'm home to see your setups when you have some time.

As anit-tuner this sounds, the only good suspension for Calgary is stock or 4X4 Jeep style.I have sport springs and what a full time chore dodging potholes and snowdrifts is. If you don't mind your wheel gap too much stick with it your dub will thank you.

I dissagree with keeping it stock.. I have driven in calgary quite a bit, and i think there are some spots where it is nesscary to have a tuned suspension becuase you need to gove over 120km/h on some off ramps (deerfoot south on to glenmore west?).. just have to be careful
ya ya.. so the outside is old, but my 2000 engine will waste you

Well I know that keeping it stock is helly lame, and it truly is, but I just find that I am not always in the mood to do pothole watch ya know? I took a HUGE hit last night and things are feeling loose so that has sparked my recent anger about springs.

Haha it is at the intersection of Acadia drive and southland drive, if you turn westbound on acadia you will find some cement construction and tehre is a huge hole and the warning is like 1 inch in front of it so I had no recovery time GRRRR>

I know what those roads are like. But there are times I just don't like the original setup of the VW sport suspension. Too much body bounce. Do you know of anyone who has the vw lowering springs and how they perform?

Pat, what set of springs are you running?

I run H&R sport springs, I bought the because they were the most subtle. I got an old pic of when I first got em installed. There have been some mods since then but I am sure you see the point. The performance of the springs is fantastic and exponentially better. You get more respect on the streets with em on too. Those 17s made me look like I was on stilts.

Shine Racing Service has a good setup if you want stock height... I'm still a believer in constant rate springs!

Ya I checked out shine racing and talked to a couple of buyers and they alll said the height and handling rocked but teh ride PUNISHES the passengers, my first car had nothing to do with performance or tighness and honestly a bumpy ride is not my idea of a nice day out..
