  • Inaccurate fuel gauge

Hi, I just bought my first VW - a 2005 Jetta GLI 1.8T. I love this car. Anyway...

The fuel gauge at full shows about 7/8. I've tried to search this forum for other complaints, but I didn't see anything about this problem. I'll try to get this fixed when I take the car in for its first oil change.

    Anybody else have this problem?

    Thanks.

Not sure yet. I'm still on my first tank of gas. :-)

I've never had the problem, it goes all the way up! You really sure its full?

If you're in Calgary and want to meet up with one of the kind souls from the club, I think a cluster test can be performed with a VAG-COM. Or, ask your dealer to check, I am sure it can be done while you wait.

I definitely filled it up until the nozzle auto-clicked off a few times. I'll see if it happens again.

Calgary?! Is that somewhere in the Arctic Circle? Thanks for the invite. I'm in lovely Orlando, FL. I don't think I'd survive that far north. Have they opened the roads yet? I was splashing around in the Gulf last weekend.

          What's a cluster test? Or a VAG-COM? Yeah, I'm a newbie...

I had that problem when I got my dubb in 2002. Took it into the dealership and they replaced the fuel sending unit and potentiometer. Now everything is good.

All you need to do is full the tank and go to your dealer. They can adapt the fuel gauge to read full using the VAS5051 or VAS5052. You can even use Vag-Com or VWTool.
