  • Recommendation for engine bay cleaner?

It's filthy. I have old oil stains all over the engine cover, and it's generally dirty. The weather is putting the spring cleaning bug in my head. I don't have a garage so I'm aiming for a simple spray and wipe type of deal. Any suggestions?

I'd say spray it with a degreaser that is safe on paint and platics, then with water to rinse it, then use some foaming tire stuff (it seems to make the plastic and rubber parts look nice).

If you go to Crappy Tire you will find good products in the car cleaner section.

I use a somewhat watered down version of simple green. You can get it cheap at crappy tire.

Ehh I've had bad experiences with simple green before. It's surprisingly corrosive, even when dilluted.

Canuck tire's cleaning section is looking pretty ravaged after this weather!! I went and picked up some of that plastx stuff and some new microfibre cloths, and they're out of half of the stock.....

I ended up picking up some Meguiars Extra someethingorother today from PartSource. 10 bucks, did a great job. Sprayed it on, wiped it off with terry towels. Engine bay looks great. I'm actually surprised at how easily it cleaned off all of the oil overflow and grime on the engine cover.

I have only recently "rediscovered" my Mk IV. I admit to letting it go a bit before my enlightenment.

He likes his engine bay like he likes his ladies. Filthy with lots of rubber parts.
