    Re: oil

nah, just use the vw oil, if you dont, your engine will seize and you'll have to buy a new one.

From what I have heard the PD's take a even more special oil, I have heard of people using mobil's Delvac1 but haven't read into it much. Do a search on the tdiclub's website and you will more then likely find a ton of info.

        Re: oil

The LubroMoly products sold at Concept-1 likely have a specific oil that will meet VW specs for the PD (see your manual).

There is a complete list on tdiclub.com in the forum archives of PD approved oils, but only a handful are available in North America. Most are not readily available, but you can find some with a little digging and searching.

Delvac-1 does not officially meet the required VW spec to maintain your warranty, but it is a damn good oil.

I just bought a case of Delvac1 too, only about $130 for 4x 4L bottles. Better then the $35 a bottle when wallymart carried it.

I'm currently running Delvac 1 in the summer - where did you buy yours Stonewall?

In the winter I'm running the best oil deal around - UFA Polar Plus 0W40. Its CI-4 rated, full Group IV synthetic, its for extended diesel drain intervals, and its cheap - on sale sometimes for around $20 for 5L.

UFA also carries Delo 400 5W40 for under $20 for 4 or 5L....its a Group III synthetic, is my understanding, but still supposed to be good stuff. I may try the Delo if I can't find any Delvac I for under $40. I haven't checked any of the farm equipment or specialty shops (Caterpiller) who likely also carry good, cheap CI-4 diesel oils.

I buy it at the only place in calgary that I know has it, Brandon Petrolium on just off blackfoot near the deerfoot.

I'm assuming that's Duron 5W40? Where did you find it?

From the message above: You can also get Delvac 1 at the Esso on Blackfoot and Deerfoot. Depending on which idiot they have working you'll either pay $28 or $43. They also carry Powerservice, Lubetec, and an entire aisle of diesel and other products. The Shell across the road also carries some interesting stuff, including a biodiesel lubricant additive.
