One thing that I find helps with any kind of place is to be extremely detailed about what you want done, even if its obvious, discuss every tiny detail up-front. If possible document it for them.

For example Brent had problems with the decorative bolts in his wheels and with painting the back of the wheel - it would seem obvious that these things should be properly handled, but if he had discussed the bolts and painting the back of the wheel explicitly, and if it had been written down, I am sure it would have been properly handled. I am not saying its the customer's fault, however the customer can prevent problems.

When I had some body work done last year I made similar errors

I made sure I told Santo exactly what I wanted, and discussed how he was going to do it, before hand....He wanted to replace my decorative bolts too, but they would have looked different on one wheel, so I made sure he worked around it (I guess I'll see how well that worked when I get the wheel back....)...I hope it works out, I guess I was a little disheartened by the setup in the back, and the staff working there....I wasn't convinced there was much skilled labour.....

NOt even close to what happened. One rim from that accident was originally taken in my rudy's to get repaired. I got it back with a very sharp egde where it was milled, spotted alum from not being polished right, one ot the plastic bolts was drilled out then filled with hot glue, the wheel bolt holes where painted the wrong colour and the clearcoat had huge fingerprints in it. So I took all 4 in to get done, all the centercaps had snapped tabs (which I only found out right at WOW) and the center hubs where sanded when they sanded the inside of the wheel but the painter didn't paint them (and it is very easy to notice from the front side of the wheel. In this case writting down what was to be done would have done jack $hit unless you took a picture of the wheel and did a paint by numbers. Overall I am happy with how they look but not for how long they took (4months or so) or how much I paid. BTW they are still not done but they better be come monday.

The other reason I'm not tooo upset about getting them late is that if I got them in time, I would have mounted them right away and they would have been damaged in my accident last week. Always look on the bright side right..?

Speaking of wheels, man I just found out today that people actually make BBS LM replicas:

              http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...PcY_BIN_Stores

              http://www.thewheelconnection.com/ph...&brandsearch=1

I know replicas suck but you can look like you have LM's for a grand

Re: Just dropped off my 18s at Alberta Wheel Repair

Well, a bit of unpleasantness today...

I drove up to AWR to pick up my rims. The lips all look great -- smooth as butter. However, two of the rims had a giant identical gouge on one of the spokes. My wheels went in with only lip damage and perfect centers. Santo insisted it was old damage and not something that was done while they were working on them. Luckily, I had my powerbook on me so I showed him a big batch of photos I had taken just before bringing them in -- no gouges or scratches. He agreed to have his people touch them up but still didn't seem to believe me. This made me really uncomfortable because I wouldn't lie about something like that and my integrity was being questioned. Regardless, they'll hopefully be ready tomorrow looking like new. Blah.

well it is clear to me now that those @$$holes (AWR) will never be getting any of my business. I have heard to many bad things about them now to even consider them as an option. Anybody know of any other (reputable) places where i can get some rims powdercoated?

Well, to be fair, Santo is taking care of it and I appreciate that. I just wish it had been under more agreeable circumstances (like whoever damaged them at the shop actually taking responsibility).

So, I went to check on my rim yesterday.....I walk in and she's like, oh, its on the straightening rack.....I thought wait a second, its a simple refinish, that rim was good....so she checked, and apparently they do that before the rim goes onto the lathe to have the polished lip refinished.....anyhow, I was told another couple days tops, so I'll pick it up next week......I will be mighty pissed if the cost is higher than quoted, I already thought $140 was far too much for a refinish....
