Boost controller/gauge idea

I came across this site, a guy I used to work with runs it:

In particular I noticed:

A solenoid valve, hmmm that got me thinking. It connects through USB and there is an easy to use interface.

If you hooked it up to a cheap Pocket PC you could replace your N75 valve and program your own boost controller!

You could also make a Pocket PC into a boost gauge with the 2-36psi pressure sensor:

You dont need to be an electrical whiz to do this since it all connects with a USB cable.

You could hide the pocket PC and use a LCD display:

Anyhow, there are endless possibilities for cars...

AHAH, as soon as i read USB+PocketPC+Boost Controller, i almost fell off my chair. LOL
its sounds nice, but your car being controlled by a pocketpc is hilarious.

You just connect the ppc's power input to the car... so there is always power to run it.

Basically this is a way to make a fully digital full colour graphical boost gauge for $50 if you already have the pocket PC, it would be sweet if you had the guts to do it!

$10 more adds a temperature sensor.

$20 more adds voltage sensors, could connect them to other points on the car, possibly even get tach readings, MAP sensor readings, etc etc.


Could mount it in place of the MFA in an old cluster. Full colour MFA for a couple hundred bucks in ebay parts and phidgets.

I already make something cooler and more stand alone... I have use for a spare cluster(even if broken) if someone is willing to donate though.
Edit: Cool product though, I can actually think of a bunch of projects around the house to use it with.

What could possibly be cooler than full colour full screen real time visualization of boost and other engine parameters? I have thought about doing something like this using the signal from the VAG-COM however I think that measuring physical properties is going to be sooo much easier to program than interacting with the stupid OBD port.

Psst what do you think the 2x40 LCD above my headunit is for? and the 64x33 graphical LCD I have sitting on my desk?
