I checked around on Vortex, and although searching for "whistling noise" is pretty vague, I would still put a possible leak high up on the list. Someone else mentioned that the secondary air pump whistles when its starting to go. And yet other people mentioned that various berrings can start to make whistles however I suspect they would be higher pitched, more like squealing...
I am pretty sure the engine will run with the secondary air pump disconnected, we could do that to check, however I am not a tech so I make no promises what will happen
