  • Drove the new A5 Jetta

Just got back from the A5 course. Still not sure if i like the new shape of the Jetta. Its got some pretty cool features on it though. It is a little quicker now (than the old 2.0L)with the 2.5 but they were all autos. Lots more room inside. Cool doors, you take off the outside door skin to do any work on it. The door panel doesn't show much when removed. All new suspension in the rear, it doesn't look like any other VW. Overall it SEEM"S nicely enginered but we will see in a while. Dave from DNF motors was there a few days before me, what did you think of it?

I actually loved the way things are so easy to get to. The engineers actually listened to the masses of techs and built a tech-friendly car. This means the warranty times will be lower. Anyways, it was my first time having Guy as a trainer. He was good and made you think about things rather than just try to pump info at you. The car drove well especially with the fluid-less power steering. I felt it was way more tighter. We brought the car back a few minutes after lunch and we stunk up the training center with the "Just bagged on" smell. I can't wait to drive the 2.0l T !

Yep, to Quote VW " The handling and ride quality have been perfected by a completely new and highly innovative form of electro-mechanical power steering, which not only provides a degree of power assistance that matches the car's road speed, but also makes a big contribution to straight-line precision."

yeh, the power steering is cool, you can change the settings on it so it is harder or softer to steer, eg: Handicapped mode is sooooo easy it feels like the steering wheel fell off!

Hopefully it will fare better than the Mini's electric assist...or we could have our new coilpack/MAF/unreliable SOB for the MK5s. Now, does turning it down increase road feel for those of us who like to track our cars? If so that would be a very nice thing
