I have an account with SCFC parts dept. If they can get it, I can too. Give me the oem part numbers and I will source it out for you.

What the best way to diagnose a missfire? (Havent VAG'd it yet...but last time it did something similiar, all coil pack boots were replaced, but this is much worse)
I will VAG it, and then switch the coilpacks around to see if it makes any difference. (its an upgraded Turbo btw..)

Vag Com it go into engine 01 then measure value blocks 08 channel 14 - 16 you will then with the engine running you can see the misfires in real time. If your coils are not to blame check the harness to the coils. Sometimes they crack causing the same condition.

Sorry, I've been busier than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest lately. I will have to work on one next week.

                        Dave,

I was wondering if you have done much work on aircooled engines. I have a 71 beetle that I was thinking about taking out of storage this summer, but I need a new alternator/generator. The bolt that comes through the alternator was stripped by a previous owner, now the pulley cant be bolted on tight enough to tension the fan belt.

How many hours would that run roughly?

                        Thanks,

                        Andrew

We are specialists in watercooled VW's. I don't have that great of knowlege in aircooled. It's a learning curve I wanted to learn but didn't have the vehicles on hand to work on. I would love the chance to work on your bug. I have no idea what labour time is for generator. But, I will check it out.

I spoke to our resident beetle expert. Has been working on those beetles since the early 60's. He said the labor time would roughly run 2 hours depending on what fuel pump you had..He said bring it to him and he'll fixer up. He is an older german fellow named Dieter and knows his stuff about the aircoolers. You may have to bring it to SCFC cause I don't think he does work on the side. Hope that helps you.
