  • Changing a spotlight bulb?

Newbie question but I'll ask just in case anyone can /is willing to help.

I need to change a bulb in a front spotlight,

Do I need to get at it from under the hood or just unscrew the front panel?
Anything I need to look out for/ be careful of?

    Thanks.

    You are talking this, right?

Just remove the unit from the front then you can access the back of the spot light. Are they OEM Hella?

      Yes.

But I wasnt sure whether you had to change it from under the hood
or I could just take off the panel.

I've no frickin idea what "OEM Hella" means...

Like I said, I'm a newbie, on the other side of the world. (Ireland).

It will probably pop out from the front, I imagine that whole grill piece pops out somehow. I would just get down there and take a good look at it, move it around a little you'll probably be able to see how it's held in.

I think what he meant by "OEM Hella" is, are they Hella (brand name) lights that you could get from the factory. See you probably got those when you bought the car, on this side of the world those were not a "factory option". Well I'm not much help but hopefully I clarified it a bit. Good luck!

Grab the whole piece from the front by placing your fingers in the grills and pulling. The whole piece is just held in with a few clips and snaps out with a little persuasion. After it pops out, disconect the harness from the light assembly and change the bulb. A flathead screwdriver wrapped in cloth can help pry the piece out if needed.

No worries Jason. I'm just taking a stab at it too LOL I've never actually had to remove these either. But I figured they must be the same as the stock covers on our mk4s. Here's a link that I found too. Might help a little...

Cheers for the help and the links lads,

Found a small screw (almost hidden) holding the panel in place,
                did the job.

                Go raibh maith agaibh.

Ah good, glad to hear it. Yea, there wasn't much response at first because you can't get these here, so everyone would have been kind of guessing. They look cool though how come no one has installed these in the club?

They only work on cars with no intercoolers, so 1.8Ts and TDIs are out so just the 2L and VR6s which are in the minority.
