Are they still on sale at crappy tire?

Some of the auto supply stores ie Napa, Partsource etc have them cheaper all the time. I'd check crappy tire and then phone around for prices.

I bought mine off sale, and just told them "I checked my flyer at home, I wasn't sure it was over...", they gave it to me for sale price...

The one caution between the lower watt heaters and the 1500 W is to make sure you're using a heavy-duty extension cord that can handle the electricity needed for the large wattage heater, and make sure its the only thing using the outlet while you're heating. With that wattage of heater you're probably fully warm in 2 hours or less unless its -40 below or more I'd bet.

My 1000watt ones where $65 at partsource, one was used so I returned it and the idiot brought out the wrong one that was labeled wrong and then tried to convince me it was an updated version LOL I told him to give me my $$ back then I went to crappy tire and bought it for $51

Yes, I've had to buy heavy duty timers and such (1900watt) to handle it...I plug both the zerostart and the oil pan pad in at the same time, with no noticable problems....

I've also seen them at Auto Value, not sure if they're cheaper than Crappy Tire or not. I seem to recall the regular price was cheaper, but that C. Tire puts them on sale (like when I bought my 1000 W).

FYI, the buzz on TDIclub is that the VW dealers in Canada that are selling and installing these on new TDI's are actually 550Watt units made in Europe.

So Aleks, how about that write up? I was planning on getting into this this week but when the temp dropped, I decided to ride it out for now. I might go for it this weekend though. A write up might help me save a little time. What parts did you need to pick up?

I'm sure there's some other people here that would also appreciate it.

Wow. I remember hearing about these about 3-4 yrs ago, and then nothing until now. They were supposed to start installing similar units into new vehicles (GM and Ford I think?). Anyone know if they have them on some new vehicles?

I'm going to have to get one of these for sure.

Does anyone know if these work alot better than the OEM heater that the dealer installs? I've been less than impressed with the OEM coolant heater so far, although if plugged in all day it seems to help warm the engine a little bit.

If the performance of these zerostarts is that much better, I'm inclined to swap my OEM for a zerostart. Also, is the zerostart thermostatically controlled?? Or is it like the OEM and it'll keep heating as long as it's plugged in, even if by chance you got the coolant heated to above operating temp? (Although I don't think that the OEM heater is capable of this... Maybe the zerostart would be.)

Um, yes.....it keeps my car at 90 degrees if plugged in...
