You should be fine with 55mm, although you dont mention width of wheel/tire and offset. Generally the front will rub first unless you run really wide with spacers or low offset on the rear. You should be good up to 235 on 8.5 wheels with 30 offset.

I run 19x8.5's and am pretty low, no rubbing unless I really hit a speedbump hard.

I run 18x8.5's and am 1.8" lower. I rub on full turns and on speed bumps.

I have 17x7.5s with a 2.5" drop and rolled fenders and I rub all the freakin time, but I guess that is MK3s for you

I would say the 55mm with the 19s should be ok! Do it!

I have 18x8.5's and am lowered almost 2". The only time I ever rubbed was on the downhill of our banff trip

FOR SURE! Although this year I think it might be a good idea to do it on a less busy day. I'm also investing in a tripod for the Video Camera, so this time we will have good footage of everyone. Plus Bill can take some more killer photos. Oh, and a rear sway bar is a must for me before we try that again. Can you say understeer.
