  • Anti-Seize Suggestions?

Before I change out my rims this year, I want to use some sort of anti-seize compound so that the wheel bolts and more importantly, getting the rear wheels off the car, becomes a much more painless task. I've came across a Loctite brand material (see below), but just wanted to ask the NVD crew what you guys all used... in case there is something better out there.

    Cheers...

I use a copper anti-seize product. There's many brands out there, and they all are about the same. I believe Can Tire sells them for about $7 per bottle and it goes a long way.

A piece of advice I want to give here. If you apply anti-seize on the bolts or other flat area. When the car is driving in hot weather, the compound will melt and spray all over your wheels inside and out. VW do not recommend applying anything for their wheels.

i've never had that problem i have however had the problem of beating a wheel off with a hammer for 30 minutes because the dealer didn't use any antiseize on the bolts

Ditto. A little goes a LONG way with this stuff so overspray is likely caused by applying too much product.

No, that's because they overtorqued them with an impact wrench.

I've heard so many conflicting arguments about whether or not you should use this copper stuff, I don't know what to believe. Yes, it makes it much easier when changing tires. When you change all 4 tires a couple of times in a day, you do tend to appreciate that. But it also means that the bolts aren't held in place as tightly as they should be. I used it for a while, but I haven't for the last year or so.

Torque them properly and you won't have any trouble getting them back off.
