Re: Poor TDi would not start

Well had the poor car towed into South Center last night from Okotoks...Thanks God for Roadside Assistance
I'll have to wait and see what they tell me... sometime today... I hope they can get it going and there is nothing else wrong...???

oohhhh man its freezing now!!!!! soon as i looked at the temp this morning, i knew it wasn't going to be easy starting. sure enough, not that easy, i had to hold the key for about 5-10 seconds, ran a little at ~400rpm, black smoke everywhere, aahah, but it started, for a second i thought it wouldnt, baby never let me down yet!

Come on, I'm not handicapped, I thurned the Ignition on, waited 20 sec for the glow plug light to turn off, then I started the engine, the the RED temp warning light started blinking for a few seconds along with the beep sound.

My Red temp light has been going off in these cold mornings too (1.8T). It only happens in the mornings after sitting all night, it beeps 3 or 4 times, and then flashes. After I drive for a bit I can turn the car off & turn it on again & it is gone. Scares the crap outta me everytime it goes off though.

I am booked at NL for my seat replacement on Monday & am getting them to look at it then. I will let you know if they know what it is.

This weather is just too cold for man, beast or machine.

Well heard from South Center they say they got it started no problem when they brought it in to warm up...
They said it was frozen solid... no kidding ...so was I
They recommend a block heater....no kidding me 2...
                      Anyway picking it up tonight...
I am always happy with these guys At South Center...the way they treat me... they have always been tops with me.

I'll throw my 2 cents into here....I don't know how accurate my theory is, but, my Corrado used to do the temp light too when it was really cold. When I'd first start it up it would flash. It would only stop if the car warmed up a bit and I shut it off and turned it back on. Is it possible that the sensor that controls that light cannot read insanely cold temps and just defaults to a warning? It would only do it if it was maybe below -25 (maybe colder I don't remember) and only after it had been sitting a really long time (car completely frozen). I don't know just a thought, but I always just figured that the temp sensor and gone beyond it's spec and would cause the fault to show.

I got the light last year on the really cold days. I have yet to get the light this year. The main engine differences this year from last year are I installed a tb exhaust, tih and chip.

I kinda figured that this was the case. I am pretty sure that this all started shortly after the coolant temp sensor was replaced under warrantee. I will have them look at the sensor & see if it is malfunctioning.

It seems do do this when temps are below -5 or -10, which is not really that cold. Hell lately I'l take -10 anyday.

You say the TB, chip fixed it hey. Maybe I will have to pull that one past the wife

I am not too concerned about it, it is just more of a pain in the ass.
