Stonewall, you cannot tell when a temp sensor goes out of spec, you CAN tell when it fails completly. Trust me i probably change one of these sensors once a week and fixes lots of wierd quirks. Also as far as replacing the ecm, i usually warranty it.

Re: Fuel consumption seems VERY high on my TDI

Ouch that's bad... I get at least 800k when it's this cold... cold weather plays a big part in my mileage... usually I can get aporx. 1000k on a tank when it's nice out....and I'm chipped.
I do what my Service Advisor told me .... drive the car like you stole it... Tdi's are meant to be driven Hard...!!!
Of course I don't have a muffler either...maybe that's an idea... cut it off...?

      Good luck finding the problem...

Whenever I see an old lady slip and fall on a wet sidewalk, my first instinct is to laugh. But then I think, what if I was an ant, and she fell on me. Then it wouldn't seem quite so funny.

        sorry this is OT:
TDI Steve: any chance that you could post a sound clip of your "mufflerectomized" TDI from OUTSIDE the car (like maybe a clip of the car accelerating away with the pedal down)? I've seen sound clips on another website but they are just of the car sitting and reving at idle, want to get an idea of what the car sounds like when its in motion. If so, thanks a ton...if not, thx anyways

            Update:

I fueled up the car again today. No big improvement with the warm weather with my auto TDI. SFC said to me today about four auto TDIs(1 Passat PD, 1 Jetta PD, 2 old generation tdi ) have the same high fuel consumption problems. They still have no solution to my problem, so to others. Why they can’t fix what they sell?

Have you changed your wheel size from stock by any chance? A different diameter wheel/tire would throw out your odometer, especially if you changed sized significantly.

Probably obvious, but I've seen more than one post elsewhere where people post mileage problems and after a question or two the "problem" is a significant change in wheel/tire size from stock.

Funny, every car I have ever owned has been heavily modified and I drive them like no one should and I consistantly get better mileage than EPA.

The princess sucks if the ride she drives sucks.

What can you do if the car sucks in the first place? How do you know I love to race and indeed the car is obviously modified? Give me the list gtx.

I don’t even know you or recognize that your life exist in the universe.

hum the best milage i ever got with my car was the first 2 or 3 tanks. but i can still get around 800k consistantly and all i have done is put in a kn filter and smoothed my airbox. oh and hey steve i wanna hear your car too i wanted to take my muffler off but i thought it would sound like a kabota lawn tractor
