  • Selling price for my car?

Hey guys, How much do you think my car would be worth on a private sale? '02 GLS 1.8T with about 76k and all the mods (full mod list in the members gallery). I was looking at some web sites to get an idea of pricing, but there seems to be alot of inconsistency out there Any advice from people who recently sold their dubs would be appreciated. Also, would parting it out be a better option?

    Thanks

    Derick

Haha, I knew that was coming. I'll keep you in mind if I do part it out Neil. So if I DID revert her back to stock form, how much do you think it would be worth?

Thanks for the info Neil! I'm sort of leaning toward trying to sell the car as is (that is, if I DO decide to sell it). The more I thought about it, the more I realized how much work is involved in reverting the car back to stock form. Furthermore, being in SoCal now it's not like I can have a "mod" weekend to do all this Oh well, we'll see I guess. I will still probably part out the wheels and a couple other small things that are easy to remove.

I went and test drove my possible future car this afternoon. It's been raining cats and dogs here in L.A. for the past few days with literally inches of water streaming down most of the roads. All I have to say is that the car handled it beautifully! .... cough, Quattro, cough

You get dick for mods if you sell the car as is unless you happen to get lucky and find a VW nut. The dealers will pretty much ignore them - ask Peter about that. Sell the obvious expensive stuff like the wheels, interior stuff, the extra body kit pieces if you can (the bumpers would be a problem). Suspension since that's an invisible mod - trade for stock stuff plus cash then pay a shop to switch it out.

I'd post an ad on vortex classifieds - if it doesn't sell there, it's not going to sell at some vw lot.

I wish. The S4 is a little too rich for my blood. I'm thinking of purchasing the A4 1.8T with the 6 speed Quattro. I actually met some of the Vortex guys and a guy from Greedspeed and CEC her in L.A. They recognized my Jetta off the Vortex AND one of them works for the Audi dealership I went to LOL. So according to them, chipping and engine mods to unstrangle the car from its 170bhp rating is no biggie.

Ryan, as far as the power. It's pretty much what you'd expect. Close to the stock 1.8T but a little more piggish due to the extra weight. The Quattro was nice though. We spent a good 20min pinning the car through it's gears and ripping around the San Fernando valley in torrential rains! Good times

Re: Selling price for my car?

Amen for getting dick for mods. I bought my Neon for $7,000 and put $12,000 in to it and the mods have made the car worth zero on the regular market.

The general car buyer values mods at roughly 20% purchase value and as a negative value if they are mechanical.

When my first Neon was up for sale the calls for it only started coming when when the performance and suspension mods were removed from the advertisment.

Also, in Calgary you should be able to get close to $20k for the Jetta. I've seen them in the auto trader and dealerships for that much.
