So today at work we watched a satelite course on the new A5. When you see the car driving at the camera it looks way better than just looking at the pictures. The back of it still looks a little importish but the whole car looks good. One car had a different lower valence which looked way better than the one in the pics. In Canada they will be 2006 models when released in march but in the usa they will be a 2005 models kind of what they did with the A3 to A4 in 1999. Canada will get only 4 colors at first, Usa gets 6!! More will come in the following months. The base engine 5 cylinder looks good, no timing belt to change, the air cleaner is under the plastic engine cover which was kinda funky. The TDI goes up 5 in the tourqe dept. and up 5 in Horsepower. The 2.0L turbo will be a delayed release (summer) and looks like a strong motor (200HP). Transmission wise 5spd, 6spd and the dsg WITH steering wheel controls (woo hoo!!) On the interior they were showing dual zone climate controls, not sure what trim level or maybe they all get it. Cupholders are in the doors and the center console, A/C in the glove box (like the Passat). Power seats, headrests that go up and forward in an accident (can't remember the fancy name for them) MFI in the instrument cluster like the Touereg (control door lock changes, puddle lights in the mirrors etc). In the trunk there is no more cargo net thingy on the right side but a removable divider thing (hard to explain without seeing it) little hooks for bags on the top of the trunk, and still a full size spare. The suspension is all new, front sway bar links are looonnnggggg! The rear does not look VW ish due to the seperate control arms now instead of the solid beam. I'm sure there is more i will remember after i post this but i dragged it out enough already!

Re: Saw an A5 jetta today... kinda.
The 4 colors are Spice red, platinum gray, silver and black. There was nothing mentioned about the GLI or the GTI but one Jetta on the show looked a little different than the rest (different bumper etc). They look good.

Re: Saw an A5 jetta today... kinda.
VW was filming the NA commercial for the A5 Jetta here in downtown L.A. not too long ago. I still think it's fugly On paper though, it looks like it's gonna be a much more superior machine to the A4... Can't wait till it hits the show rooms here.Derick
