    Hi!

Bad news, but I will tell it to you straight so it doesn't hurt as much.

The 2.0L will never be a quick car, Golfs are really heavy and your engine only makes about 115hp at the crank, probably less than 100 to the wheels.

The Prelude is out of your league unfortunately. If you had the 1.8T or VR6 you might have a chance with some affordable performance upgrades.... but even a turbo 2.0L will be hard pressed to reach a respectable 200hp, and even then would be 15-20% heavier than a Prelude!

As for shifting, always as late as you can.

      Sadly Kor is entirely right.

You will find it less expensive to sell the car and buy a 1.8t than to build up a 2.0 to match or beat a 1.8t.

A prelude weighs a wee bit under 3000 pounds and has 190-ish HP. Your 2.0 weighs over 3000 pounds and has 115 hp. You will need another 80-90 hp to keep pace with it. Experience has taught me that on a non-turbo motor you will pay around $50 per WHP increase (unless you go with nitrous).
