  • WARNING: Do not take your car to GT Car Star

As you all know, I was in an accident a while back -- smashed up the frotn end of my jetta, needed bodywork and a new rad -- and I took my car to GT Car Star, because they were an Allstate authorized repair shop. On my way to work today, I suddenly get a flashing coolant light. I pull over to find my coolant tank empty and a giant pink puddle under the car. I have it towed to Fifth Ave Autohaus. And this is where the real fun begins.

Fifth ave discovered that some core part of the coolant system was stripped when it was reattached, so the whole assembly basically just slipped out of place and dumped my coolant. But that's only the beginning. The whole rad support was installed crooked and the radiator was spaced apart with CARDBOARD! They also left a lot of pieces from the intake system off and the air conditioning hoses are rubbing against moving parts and would have eventually ruptured.

I'm still in a bit of shock right now so I can't even react. Fifth Ave is waiting for a reply from GT Car Star.

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!

Yikes. I still have yet to fix my 20th after my little slip slidin' oops. Please, leave more "Where to Go. Or in uv23's case... Where the H*ll not to go!" suggestions for the rest of us.

O.k., well for me at least.

              Cheers All...

i read your post again, and:

"allstate authorized..." i think means "the cheapest body shops", i get that vibe...
i think what happens now is you rip out everything they fixed, get something from the dealer saying its not safe and was done improperly, and go to another body shop and start over... i'm guessing they have another one lined up for you, and doubt they will let you pick one, unless like this happens 3 times in a row, meaning something will be fishy here...

i dont understand why the dealer cant fix it??? its just a matter of ordering broken/bent parts and screwing them back into place...

                  sorry to hear that Bart!!

yeah i think we should organize some kind of list of bodyshop/mechanics approved by NVD for members... for myself, i have my shares of problems with mechanics/bodyshops on my VW...

again... sorry to hear about your incident...

Re: WARNING: Do not take your car to GT Car Star

I’m not backing any of the body shops here. What I say is even a good reputation body shop can do a bad job. Understand what parts got damaged and the insurance policy is important. Also, how well you can juice up the insurance company is another thing.

People from the insurance company especially the appraiser sometimes do not even understand the construction of the particular car. If you think those people got an Engineering Degree and give their $.02 cent to you then too bad. Therefore, they will get opinions from the body shop to work out a minimum budget method. You can even say they sometimes work together to lie to the customers who got minimum knowledge about their car.

Maybe Bart got lucky, I don’t know, or he walks in there talk like a Pro then start to talk like ”hmm… I was rocking in my TDI GT tail pipe smoke like the BC wild fire @ 370Km/h on the freeway then a moose jump out from the bushes of nowhere. All of a sudden I got the crave of those cones from AutoX. I only got owned one side of my brushed aluminum mirror. I think I was lucky.” end of story.
