  • Pulley's, anyone?

Anybody here running pulley's on their 1.8T?

Either the 3-piece set (ecs tuning, or unorthodox tuning crank, p/s and alt pulleys) -- i guess these are underdriven

OR the single crank pulley (like turn2) ?

Curious if the UD pulley's really make a diff with the a/c or headlight dimming. I've read mixed reviews on whortex.

    anyone?

i used to want to get them but then i read horror stories about how they end up stressing other components causing premature failure..

I have read that the 3-piece does cause problems that you can "live with" such as a loss of electrical power...

I don't think the gains are worth the trouble. You can argue that every little bit helps, but I would counter that every little bit of money helps when saving for something that can really make the car faster.

        Pulleys kick ass.

The BS about them eating crank bearings is just that: BS. I have had pulleys on five cars (swift, mustang, daytona, neon, neon), the most recent being my two high abused Neon's each with over 120,000 unforgiving KM's on them.

Once you have done the chip and the downpipe then do the pulleys. Unless you KNOW you are going to go BT then put the money away for that.

Yes it does reduce voltage off the alt at lower RPM, however it's not a huge issue unless you are running full heat, defrost, lights, wipers and stereo and are idling for long periods of time. If you are that concerned with it then bump your idle up a hundred or so RPM with lemmiwinks and the problem is solved. Or don't get underdrive pulleys, just get lightweight ones.

Is there a 'lightweight' 3-piece set?

All I can see is the single one from turn2.

Neuspeed has their 'power pulley' but I can't tell if it's an UD set.

I'm looking for bolt-on mods. I have no intensions of going with a bigger turbo or FMIC. It's just not financially practical for me at this time And I don't want to lose all the soft cozy creature comforts of a new vehicle...which is why I'm trying to find out some solutions with pulley's...

Then get a LW UD 3 piece set and bump your idle up a tick. Or don't worry about it because it will be a minimal issue.

Pulleys will add some slight vibration over the range of the engine, but that is just one of those trade-offs as noise is with a better exhaust.
