  • help i have no heat(sort of)

Have what i think is a problem. When car is warmed up the air coming out of any of the vents is 85' F tops with the heat on full, anyway if sitting at an idle and you blip the throttle the air get alot hotter maybe 120'F and will stay this way for a while but will cool off again. The same thing happens when driving, It's kinda warm then gets hot for a while then goes cool again. Temperature gauge never moves from 90'C
Hope this is not the way the heating works in this car or i'm gonna freeze may ass off this winter. So if you think yhis a problem i will bring it up at next service at dealer
    Any comments would be appreciated
    Regards

I have noticed when it's really cold you have to keep the revs up to keep the heat toasty. That's one thing domestic cars rule at - heaters and AC.

However, it hasn't been nearly cold enough yet this season to bug me so you might have a bad thermostat or something.

I've not had any issue with heat on my VW's. What I have had a problem with is that the controls seem to be binary - cold or hot. There doesn't seem to be a decent middle ground. My heated seats are the same way; setting 1-4 yields nothing, but turn it over to 5 and my ass just a sizzles.

see thats the strange part.. 1 or 2 on my heated seats is just perfect 3-5 is just pure fire under my but and is way to hot.. and the car heater 1/2 way is hot enough for me.. even last winter i don't think i ever turned it past 60% for heat..

same with me. if I turn the heater up past 60% my car turns into a sauna.

I feel nothing at 1 on the ol' heated cowhide, but 2, 3, 4 are all different and 5 does roast me after a few minutes (but that can be good too).

The heating system is a little (lot) crappy, on-par with my old Cavalier. I guess that is why they sell Climatronic?

I'm quite PO'd that the climatronic is only available on the VR6. I had the manual HVAC on my 2000 Passat as well and it too sucked similar to my GTI.

The Passat's heated seats were useless on 1-3, but 4 and 5 were nice.

Does anyone know if the seats go through the ECU? Every other bloody system in the car does. If they were ECU controlled then perhaps VW can adjust them in some manner more elegant than patching a resistor or fiddling with some pots somewhere.

Is the thermostat / coolant flow butterfly ecu controlled as well?

Apparently the heated seats elements are controlled by fuses and relays.
