Re: How accurate are the VDO boost gauges?

If my engine goes Kaaaa…booom by .5 psi +/- I think I will even invest more money on gauges. Or blame VW if nothing works.

$300 a gauge yet not the best IMO. If you have the money for equipments, you better know how to tweak them. I don’t think money is an issue, you can spend all you want but to know how to fine tune to the peak performance is a bigger issue.

The thing is, what difference does it make if the gauge is slightly off if you know what the levels are when the engine is running good and you've compared your levels with others. IMO, a few psi are not noticeable to the ass dyno anyway. Not to mention that the readings fluctuate with ambient conditions also.

I've got one of the Omori - AWE-tuning boost gauges. The color match is simply amazing

When I first got it, the needle sat at 0psi. (I know ottawa is lower alt then calgary, so maybe this has something to do with it)...

After 6 months, it now sits at -1.5 InHg. Wierd. And when I run it and compare it to the vag-com, the gauge is consistently 1.5 to 2psi less than the 'actual' boost log.

Regardless of what the altitude is, I expect the vag com reading (map sensor, no?) to be match almost exactly to my boost guage.

Anyhoo, it's off to awe-tuning to get replaced.

Just thought I'd share -- just because a gauge costs a lot doesn't mean it's going to be better.
