  • n249 bypass

Well I tried this out and for the time being my limp mode from 3rd to 4th gear has disappeared. Boost is about the same, no real change. The sound of my DV is DEFINITELY different. Much crisper. Originally the hose I had was crimped so I was getting a nasty flutter sound. Blake fixed it up as usual =P hehe.

I did this a while ago too. Didn't really make much difference to me, DV is a bit more harsh when it opens/closes but I have a stiff spring in there.

What did you use to block the old DV line?

Also, did you remove the black air resovoir too, and re-route directly from the manifold to the DV and the secondary air system, or did you just T-off somewhere to go to the DV and leave everything else in place?

I want to remove some of the trash but its a pain tracing the air lines.

I bypassed everything attached to the intake manifold, all those annoying little solenoid valves, tubes going to who knows what... all gone. My car works better now than it did before. I'm not sure what I'm missing but I like it.

Haha you posted this like 1 second after mine...

How the HELL did you get underneath where all those little valves are to trace where the hoses go? And where did you get plugs/caps for the hoses?

I would like to come off the bottom of my manifold and just T to the sec air system and the DV, and totally remove the rest... but I tried and am not confident enough to do it myself. Can't see wtf I am doing under there since its all mounted upside-down.

I'm not using the secondary air injection pump. Its all eletrically disconnected. I have a air line going from the Intercooler pipe to my DV and the on the bottom of the intake manifold i have the PCV valve thing still connected (of course) and the two small air lines (one to the FPR and one too -can't remember).

Maybe the next meet I'll show you how I did it.

          when is the next meet?

Not till December, November's meet was last week (First Thursday).

Just some tips would be nice, like seriously, I can't even get my bloody hand under there nevermind see where the valves are. Did you take the plate they are mounted to off? I cant remember but I think its bolted to the intake manifold somehow.

Also, are you sure you don't need that air pump? I am pretty sure bad engine codes will come up without it. I can see bypassing the black air resovoir though for sure, and all the little check valves and solenoids... they're not doing jack.

yeah I couldn't find where anything went, so I just T'ed my DV off of my FPR line (which is also t'ed to my boost guage). The n249 is just capped off.

Didn't do squat for me. I couldn't tell a difference at all -- I don't have a CAI though so I can't hear much of my intake anyway!

On a related note, I went to Home Depot (I hate Home Depot) looking for a cap for the little metal hoses... no dice. They never have anything. I need a plumbing store or something.

So this is how I would do it if I had my way and could actually trace the hoses:

I unbolted it all. The secondary injection pump is for emissions purposes to send air extra air to the cat somehow making it more efficient quicker. I have no cat thus all things for it to work are gonzo.

I didn't remove the air injection pump because I thought when I sell the car I'll hook it all back up.

Don't cut the hoses etc cause that makes a worse mess (i did that first) and you'll eventually just pull it all out so that the car drives better. My DV works like a fricken dream now. I can be doing some major 20+ boost and flutter the gas pedal and my boost won't go to crap, it will sorta dip but then build again, i employ this method in corners where wheel spin is a problem so that when i get out of the turn my boost doesn't have to climb as its already still in boost. long story but yeah, DV will work better fo'sho

                      Re: n249 bypass

My 3rd to 4th gear redline limp has returned =(

From the gear switch from 3rd into 4th at redline my boost will maybe reach 11 then drop to 5 then to 15. Only when I redline from 3rd to 4th. Tried everything. Its right after the car switches gears... its like it doesnt like the intial gear shift or something.

                      I tried changing:

New downpipe, different n75's, mbc/overboost, diode, n249, dv.

I might go back to my stock programming and see if it is the new upsolute file. Or try an APR trial.

Only guess now is my throttle is closing? Any advice?

                        Yes I have advice!

                        1. Get rid of MBC or use as overboost solution and set it to the proper boost level of your chip (ie 15psi) or a little LOWER.

                        2. Softest possible spring in the DV. No shims.

                        3. Stock N75

                        4. Use VAG-COM and log: boost (requested and actual), also throttle pedal position and real throttle body position while this happens.

The correct way to address a symptom is not to add more variables to the problem!
