              Re: 94 octane message

husky/mohawk use ethanol blends - is the 94 an ethanol blend.

I don't own a gas vw so I don't know, but quite a few new cars caution the use of ethanol blends. The bike I have states no more than 5% ethanol, to me that's 0%.

                Re: 94 octane message

Its been argued in the past, there is no end-all evidence on the ethanol issue.

Here is what I have gathered:

                1. Adding Ethanol to increase octane DOES let you advance timing.

                2. Ethanol enhanced gas burns with lower energy output than equivalent non-ethanol gas.

                3. Ethanol is probably not friendlier for the environment, since the cost of its production outweighs its benefits.

I wouldn't bet much on anything but the first one being true though.

                  Re: 94 octane message

Also, Husky/Mohawk 94 has less ethanol (3%) then their 92 as the base octane is higher.

Using husky 94 in a non-boost/adapting car is pointless. Shell 92 would be better in a VR6.

Putting it in a base Accent is retarded. (I was behind one the other day).

Premium for VR6 is supposed to be 95, so I am sure that 94 would be better than 92.

I use 92 octane fuel in my ford ranger- because : little more power, noticebly better mileage. (maybe the Accent person figured that out also, need every advantage you can get)

Never thought I would use high octane fuel since it's a beater almost, but after doing lots of highway driving it's definately worth it.

                        Re: 94 octane message

It doesn't work like that. Higher octane is not a "treat". It does not burn better.

You may see a benefit from the extra cleaning additives like Techron in Chevron gas, or whatever Shell/Esso use, but you'd be better off putting a can of injector cleaner in.

If you put Husky 94 in any base civic or Accent, you will see less power and less mileage over time. That's because ethanol makes the burn less powerful with less heat. The tradeoff is you can compress it more before it spontaneously detonates (increase compression/boost). Which is pointless for the most part on an NA car.

Premium for VR6 is supposed to be 95, so I am sure that 94 would be better than 92.
That's 95 RON which is Europe. Their Super-Premium is 98 RON. 95 RON is 91 here (more or less ) .

                        From Chrysler:
Your vehicle is designed to meet all emission regulations and provide excellent fuel economy when using high quality
regular unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87. The use of premium gasoline is not recommended. The use of premium gasoline will provide no benefit over high quality regular gasolines and in some circumstances may result in poorer performance.
Bottom line is use what the fuel door on your car says. If you get knock (your car is old) then move up a grade. Otherwise save the money for that supercharger kit.
