    Re: dyno results are in!

    Like everyone else?

Mustang to Dynojet : x 1.13 works for lower hp cars.

Both are rollers in the floor. The mustang has the ability to simulate rolling resistance which lowers the numbers closer to actual "at the wheels" - but it certainly isn't any more accurate in terms of curve and consistancy.

There is no "best" dyno. All that matters is consistancy. (Or in Bart's case, being able to get a proper reading).

If I bought a widget-dyno that was only 100 bucks, but showed 50% more power than a mustang dyno, who cares? As long as people reading and using it know that it's 50% more.

1.13 eh? Not 1.14, that would be too much...

I read they tested a Magnaflow muffler upgrade on HotRodTV (the show) and got 295 on the dynojet and like 230 on the mustang.

        Re: dyno results are in!

The point is relative increases. If his final magnaflow number was so high, I'm sure his baseline would have been equally high (minus whatever increase he got from the muffler).

Of course NASCAR must be wrong too since they use Dynojets. And every other tuner shop that has them is simply misleading their customers right? If 2 cars run on the same day, on the same machine, with the same dyno configuration I guess you just toss those results because it's a dynojet? Or a baseline followed by another run with a mod - that's somehow invalid?

I'm not saying C1 can't be calibrated a bit high, or that the SAE correction is being done wrong. But to say one is "real" and the other isn't is silly. They're both wrong - so what are you going to do - pull your engine and get a "real" crank reading every time? How are you going to ensure baseline atmospheric pressure? Winter additives in the gas?

As for that Bullit mustang, those numbers are completely wrong. That's like a stock 1.8T doing 250hp; could be caused by any number of things, most likely being a typo in the script.

Bottom line - everyone knows a mustang dyno reads lower (closer to wheel hp). A dynojet is closer to crank hp. A dynojet is WAY more affordable than a mustang dyno. Both require accurate calibration. You can make general conversions between the two, but even comparing between two dynojets for more than a general idea is foolish. If you get on a dyno, expecting to get 204 hp and get mad when you pull 202 instead...you're crazy.

ok, the point is, mustang dyno will provide you with actual wheel numbers, where as dynojet between wheel and engine? whats the point of that? there is none of this "closer" business, i either want wheel power or engine, not an average!
