  • Loose Door Windows

Well I finally got my car back on Friday, insurance ended up pick up the tab for all the new transmission and core parts plus an alignment. The car seems to be a little smoother thru 1st and 2nd then before, a little more "peppy" but that could also be the cooler air and not having a car for the past month. I am pretty happy at how fast they got the parts and installed them in about a week after the approval in total.

When I had dropped it off, I had asked them to take a look at the front passenger side door, the window makes a ping (easiest way to describe it) when you close it. When I got the car back they said that they were unable to recreate the sound. So what happens when I get back to the car, I close the door and PING. By now they were already gone home for the night so I'll have to go back and get them look at it again. I noticed that the other doors are doing it once and while now also.

I also learned a valuable lesson this weekend, don't turn the seat warmers any higher than 3 when you wearing nylon track pants.

My driver side window was making this noise. I brought it up at the dealership and they said "its normal".

Then, when I was in Banff this summer, my driver-side window clip broke and the window fell into the door. Needless to say, I was kinda pissed off. The dealership fixed the window clip but it was a big pain because I was supposed to be in Banff all weekend long.

Now, after they replaced the defective/broken clip, the driver side window no longer makes the noise.

However, the passenger side has started making that noise. I know that the dealership only replaced the window clip on my drivers side, not on the passenger side.

If you haven't had your window clips replaced and have one of the older VW's that had the cheap plastic clips, I might take the noise to mean that the clip is starting to wear. However, VW probably won't do anything about it until the window actually falls.

I thought thats what it could be, it's an 04. I though that they had changed to the metal clips with the 04's or was it during the production year they had switched? I can picture it now... it'll be the coldest day of winter and I'll be in the middle of nowhere and the windows will decide to fall.

I think they switched in late '03 so you should definitely be safe with an '04.
