I had an old VW Rabbit for the last 10 years. It just took a dump on me (tranny is shot) and I think it will cost too much to fix it. Looks like I am in the market for a new Veedub. Any recommendations? I am going to go the the Veedub dealer this weekend and test drive a couple models, but thought I would see which one you all think is the best.

Maybe you can give us an idea what kind of car you are looking for, and we can come up with some suggestions!
Personally, I think the 337 or 20th GTI's are the best VW's available. Although both would be "used" at this point, I would vastly perfer to track down a new-ish 337 or 20th than to buy a new Golf/Jetta/Passat.
The Passat just got a new TDI engine thats stronger than ever before, so that might be something to consider if looking at Passats.
TDI's are the easiest VW's to drive, they feel great around town especially with a 5-speed manual.Last edited by Kor; 11-02-2004, 12:58 PM.KR

I had a rabbit once but it just ran away on me... Ohh a car. Well if you wanted you could drop a 1.8T motor into that badboy and have a very fun, unique and light car.Name: Brent

Re: My rabbit died
If you like the rabbit get a new golf they are not too much alike as the new one is totaly different. But the basic exterior is similar. I have a 1.8t 04 GTi and a 82 Gti I love both of them I have not yet driven the 82 much though as I just bought it a coupple of weeks ago, I put it in the shop as soon as I got it and it is not regeristered yet. Anyways I woud recomend getting a new vee dub before the golf and jetta 5's come out. I hear the jetta 5 will be released as a mid 05 model and the golf 5 will be an 06 model in North America. From what I have seen of both they are ugly and making a turn towards the Japanese look of cars. I agree with ElectroFuzz if I could get a 337 or 20th AE I would drop my 04. I don't particulary like the GLI I think you get much more out of the 337 or 20th AE than the GLiLast edited by dubspeedGTi; 11-03-2004, 11:34 AM.2004 Reflex Silver GTi 1.8t

haha Gawd, (edit: SOME)GTI/Golf owners are hard headed (edit: SOMETIMES)! What do you get in the 337/20AE that you don't get in the GLI?
Hot seats? ChecK!
Hot wheels? ChecK!
Black headliner? ChecK! (was this in the 337?)
Better paint choices? (Black magic...that is all) ChecK!
Nice cluster/interior trim? ChecK!
And for the record, Id take any of the above mentioned. If they threw the 24V in any of em, that would take the cake...*drool*
Oh and BTW I saw a 337 for sale on canadatrader for 27,500 with 33k on it.Last edited by James; 11-03-2004, 12:08 PM.REAL men use harsh language as self-defense

2. 337 has the same wheels as the GLI, and OZ Arisitos are pretty hot as well.
3. 337 does not have a black headliner, 20AE does.
4. Paint choices depend on your preferences, no Imola Yellow on GLI's.
5. GLI and 20AE have same interior trim and cluster. 337 lacks some aluminum trim and the new cluster.
The 20AE and GLI are very, very similar. I could probably count the differences on one hand, and they are very minor.billip
