As some of you may remember I have the Revo 4 bar program on my 03 GTI 1.8t 5 spd. I recently acquired an SPS-3 for my trip to the dealership and I have been fiddling with the settings with an eye on gas mileage.
These tests are NOT scientific at all and the findings are mostly anecdotal. Dyno sheets will come after my next trip to Edmonton.
With a bad coil pack and Mohawk 94 setting the timing to T6 produced the best results. Low RPM torque was just stupid - the thing pulled like an ox.
I found that upping the boost past HB 2 was pointless. I felt the best result with LB9 T6. Using 91 octane gas with T6 was not a good idea. It chugged like a steam engine.
Next I went for super fuel efficiency. LB0 (yep, zero) T9. With the slow acting N75J boost still popped to 14 psi but crept down to 5-7 psi, but the timing advance made for some very good low end power. Power sucks ass, but getting 650 km to 50 litres of gas didn't suck at all. I suspect that on the highway 800 km to the same amount of gas would not be too tough to pull off.
I think that if I swapped my 4 bar FPR back to a 3 bar for the purpose of economy I could sneak a little bit more out of it. Of course soo too might losing 50 pounds of chunk off my fat ass or maybe doing the speed limit.
A funny side note: Even with the power turned way down I still beat the snot out of my GF's 03 Hyundai Accent off the lights and I have heated seats AND get 40% better mileage.
