  • My jetta is smashed

Last night, car accident, smashed front end, had to get towed. I'm quite miserable right now. I called allstate to file my claim and they recommended one of their affiliate bodyshops: Horton Autobody or GT Car Star Collission. If I go through one of them, all of the assessment and repairs are done on site and the repair is warrantied by allstate for life. Does anyone have experience with either shop? Or any other advice? Blah.

    Dude,

That sucks. Insurance company is repairing? Lucky you. My insurance company told me that if I had any mods, they weren't covered....

I have no experience with either body shop, but have heard good things about Horton....

Well I assume they'll be repairing everything. I hope! The only mods I have on the front are my kamei grill, so at the worst I imagine I'd get a stock replacement grill. I wonder if I can pay the difference and have them replace the kamei with another kamei. Blah. :( And because this all happened last night, I won't know anything until Monday when the real fun begins.

that sucks dude.. i can almost guarantee you that a stock grill from parts at a dealer probably costs more than kamie in their books

            Re: My jetta is smashed

Yeah I'll call up C1 and see what's in stock. Maybe I can get an aftermarket bumper too! Ehh or not. *stress*

I have no pics, no. Basically what happened was:

Driving down center lane of crowchild north just past 5 ave, changing into right lane. As this is happening, another car up ahead totally cuts off someone in right lane. Person who is cut off slams on brakes, person behind them slams on brakes, and person behind them (me) slams on brakes. Everything happens too late, bang, done. I hit an old model Topaz and my jetta seemed to actually squeeze under its rear bumper -- probably from dipping while braking. So everything got pushed up. All in all, my car came out the worst, although my air bags didn't deploy. Oh, and the original cutter-offer fled the scene of course.

Cops were nice (actually everyone involved was nice) and gace ne a following too close ticket rather than a reckless driving ticket. Still that's 2 demerits against my clean record and $177. Add on the deductible from the repairs and all the hassle and I'm eating peanut butter and rice cakes for a while. :( Blah.

Dude. That sucks horribly. Eat KD. It's got more flavor then rice cakes....

              What's your deductible??

I would eat KD but I'm lactose intolerant!
I'm pretty sure my deductible is $500 but of course now that I need to actually reference my insurance contract, I can't find it. Murphy is in full force today.

                      Re: My jetta is smashed

I would fight the ticket as it was the dangerous driving of another driver that caused the accident and the road conditions would have made it harder to stop. I know how you feel though my car has been in the body shop for MAJOR repairs. If I where you I would take it to Rudy's autobody that way if you want a new kamei grill they can work with you to get one. I was told that the adjuster specifialy said no aftermarket parts so I was hooped on getting a new rear bumper etc but they have worked with me on other things to get the whole car repainted rather then just 1/2!

                        Re: My jetta is smashed

Can't really fight this one - if you rear end someone, you were following too close - there's no "but but but" about it. The guy who cut the first guy off didn't cause the accident - people not leaving room did. (Unless a guy cuts right in front and slams the brakes before you can adjust your following distance). Especially if there was considerable body damage - 10mph shouldn't do much.

Still, sucks to be in an accident - I've had more than my share for sure.

That's pretty much what happened. Either that or the car being cut off severely over reacted. Regardless, it all happened immediately after I changed lanes. I had a good three car lengths of distance but when the car in front goes from 60 or 70kph to 0 in 0 seconds, there ain't much I can do about it. I had no intention of fighting the ticket by the way. It is what it is.

GT Carstar (across from Millennium Park) and Horton AB (Horton Road SW) are both quality shops. I guess it would come down to location and/or your general impression of each shop when you get the estimate(s) done.
