  • Sunroof switch question

Looking up at the sunrrof switch, is it supposed to be illuminated. I know all of the other VWs I've had they've been lit.

Or if you put a W8 panel into your mk4. The stock dial itself can be made to light up with a led addition.

          Correct.

Its cheap if you have no sunroof. With sunroof it'll be a couple hundred.

EUtuning can probably beat dealership prices on the parts.

Do we know if the illumination wires are already run to tie into?

It requires splicing into the wires that already exist as well as running 1 additional wire for power. Ask Bart, he did it... Geoff too.

There is a kit that is sold by PG Performance (EU Tuning can probably get it locally) that is pre-wired and I think plug-and-play.

Nope -- you'll have to run a wire up to the panel, from your dimmer switch. Instructions are here:

I have a question about the install of this. I have an airbag in my A-piliar how does pulling off the A-pilliar cover affect the airbag?

I can't say for certain, but I'd imagine you have to be a lot more careful

It IS possible to slip the wire in there without having to remove the pillar though. You can just take a butterknife and tuck the wire in along the joint of the a-pillar trim piece.

I do remember seeing a post on vortex where somebody did pull off the trim piece (he had an airbag there too) so if you can find that then at least you'd know what it looks like. If you do get the trim off, at least you can route the wire with the rest of the wires that run through it.

                      Re: Sunroof switch question

I tried poking the wire in with a knife and it was ok, but still was visible in places so in the end I took the cover off and ran it properly.

There's another W8 walkthru where he runs the wire up the door seals then under the roof liner - way slicker than using the apillar.

                        Re: Sunroof switch question

Couple hundred bucks? I got mine for about a hundred on special at the time and it came with a wiring harness too. I think the dealership can get just the panel for about $60-70 if you want to make your own harness..

                        ECS Tuning

As far as the install, I ran the wiring through the roof liner and then used a credit card to tuck the wiring behind the A pillar. Since it's hollow back there, the wiring falls right in and and doesn't show or stick out. It's an awesome mod for the money. When I recently drove through the desert in Nevada at night, the lighting looked soooo cool

Ya mine was about 100 as well - but as soon as the W8 was discontinued I guess the parts doubled. Mark was quoted 185 or so I believe.
