I cut my FPR line and put a T in there. Others say it's safer to cut one of the lines at the DV - I dunno.

Read a couple of DIYs.... Guys are cheaping out and pushing into the dimmer switch... Im going to buy some *^^$! scotchloks in our first blizzard of the year -- brave eh? -- or stupid.

Used FPR line.. what a ***** that was with that stupid plastic piece of crap C1 supplied... Ill let you know how I make out..

Which wire is which on the back of the dimmer? Orange = power.. brown = ground or brown w/ stripe = ground??

Need to know that before I start scotching crap cuz I cant find my damned test light.

Hrm I thought it was on the right. A grey wire with a green (or maybe red/brown) stripe? I used wire taps but they were giving me crap so I spliced in. My T connect was a cheap little thing - it's just low volume air, nothing is going to happen to it.

              Re: Heeeeeeeeeeeeelp with turbo gauge

After much swearing, muttering, three beers and four cuts on my knuckles, I have the damn thing wired (air and electrical) and working. It reads boost, it lights up and it freakin' well dims.

Now, how the hell do I mount the gauge inside the pod and how the hell do I mount the pod to the a-pillar???

dude its like lego .. push gauge into pod. wrap bottom pod material tabs around pillar.. duct tape down (don't glue trust me) reattach wires.. smash back on pillar best u can

I got to ask....where have you guys been mounting your boost guage on the MK4's? Because the A-pillar has an air bag there....

                    Re: Heeeeeeeeeeeeelp with turbo gauge

not again LOL.. the apillar is fine to mount it.. the airbag blows about 5-6" above where the pod sits so your fine.. this has been covered to death like once every 3 months

you other options are the steering column ones but that blocks the cluster mfa (if you have one).. or a DIN panel setup..

                      Re: Heeeeeeeeeeeeelp with turbo gauge

5.5 hours, many beers, a pizza, a trip to Canadian Tire, a trip to Husky (for a few fuses), much harrassment of my father-in-law for a testlight, electrical tape and yelling at my g/f three times and the &%&#%(*&@^# turbo boost gauge works.

Pulls at 9, drops to around 8psi and is about 4 psi at cruising speed. Looks _okay_... Someone with a little more patience then me will have to help me remount it after I get a 90 degree brass fitting for the back of the gauge.

Looks good, works good -- all in all.. worth it. Now if only I can calm her down.....

                        Re: Heeeeeeeeeeeeelp with turbo gauge

A related issue, I got a little surprise in the mail yesterday and I plan on building a version 5 of my manual boost controller setup!

For those that haven't kept track, I have gone through:

                        - Bleed Valve (Version 1)
                        - Cheap Ball/Spring MBC (Version 2)
                        - Fine Pressure Regulator (Version 3)
                        - Regulator, Relief Valve and Check Valve (TTSchwing setup, Version 4)
                        - ?

We'll see if a 6th version will be necessary or not. In retrospect, it would have been cheaper to buy a nice ebc such as a Greddy or Apex'i.

                        However, I am stubborn.

A boost gauge is a great mod especially if you are like me and want to fiddle with things...

mark since yours is a 150HP 1.8t your boost readings are proper which means no leaks .. no i hope you got the perfect match led for the vdo it helps it alot..

Hmm, I tapped the DV line myself, it was closer......Sounds about right though, and yeah, its a bit of a bitchy job with the feed line and crap C1 supplies

In retrospect I might have preferred a gauge that used an electronic sensor rather than a mechanical gauge. It should even be possible to tap the stock sensor. That would be even better because you would know what the ECU is seeing...

Or, electronic boost controllers usually have built in gauges. For the price of my gauge and pod I would be half way to a really great EBC.
