  • bent rim :(

So I was driving on friday night, and I started to hear this kind of grinding sound at low speeds, then a tinging sound like something dragging on the ground. Today I took it in to get it checked out and it turns out the tinging sound was rocks stuck in my abs coils or something like that, and the grinding sound is still a mystery, but its stopped. . . but when they spun my wheels to hear the sound, they noticed my back right driver side wheel was wobbling. Its so wrecked, and they told me that my front driverside is most likely bent too.

So I took it alberta wheel repair, and Im waiting to get a quote. But Im carless for 2 days which really bites. And the part that pisses me off most, is that I have no idea where the bend came from! I didnt smoke anything. . . especially hard enough to cause a wheel to wobble! What the heck?!

Oh well. . . sorry just needed to vent.

    Thanx

        Wow LB's are indestructable.

I definitely want to have my wheels checked to see if my 19's survived the rough roads intact once they are off for the winter. I've hit some unexpected "surprises" left by the city a few times, but so far I have not noticed any vibration...

How are wheels checked? Do they have a machine that can tell if a wheel is no longer round (assuming its not obviously bent to hell)? And where would be an honest place to get this checked?

If its going to be a lot to fix you might be better just selling the unbent LB's and waiting for summer, then pick up some 18's...

Sorry to hear about that... it's seems that this summer is the summer of death for cars in Calgary. The road construction is so horrible. I can't even begin to imagine just how much money this construction has cost Calgarians in damage to their cars.

Well when they spun the wheel it wobbled quite a bit at c1 thats how they knew, but if you take it to alberta wheel repair it'll run ya 10 bucks a wheel to check it out. I got them to check all 4, I know 2 are bent so 20 bucks extra just to make sure isnt that big a deal I think.

                so heres the deal everyone!

Im kinda happy that the repairs to all four wheels only cost me about 250 bucks, which I think is quite reasonable. Alberta Wheel repair is amazing, in and out in one day, and great service. Im picking up the car tonight, Ill have to be more careful with it from now on.

I am sure they did a fantasitic job, but if I had bent two wheels I would seriously consider selling the wheels after repairs and just getting new ones.

why is that? Are they weaker now that they have been machined?

I don't have an answer to that. Maybe better safe than sorry? There must be a limit to the number of times a wheel can withstand bending and be straightened...

Edit: I found this on the web:

Q: Is the wheel weakened by the straightening process?

A: Only rarely. The wheels are slow heated so as to not damage the tempering of the metal.

Alberta Wheel Repair is the best place in western canada to get wheels done. Body guys in Vancouver talk about them and the wheels they've rebuilt for their clients. When they're done the wheel is as good looking and as strong as new.

Now, if you're looking for an excuse to go get new wheels, that's a whole 'nuther matter.....
