  • Good Place to Buy Diesel

Maybe Bart or BoyRacer can help out on this one.

You keep reading about good and bad places to buy diesel from in the States on ClubTDi, but what about here in Calgary?

    Thanks,
    Adam

I like to fill up at shell whenever I can (ultra diesel) but I think we have crap diesel here regardless..Ive used conditioner and recently tried out some cetane booster, they both make a noticable difference

I have heard that Mohawk diesel max is a good brand. I have tried 6-7 brands and found no difference myself. All still have the .5 sulpher

i use shell ultra diesel, its fine, same with mohawk diesel maxx. now i just goto superstore in mckenzie, i think husky supplies them, or thats what i heard, they all seem the same to me, everyone else i talk to says they notice differences with them all.

but i always add a half bottle of the powerservice grey cetane booster, which is overdosing, so it probably wont matter who i fill up with. at least with stupidstore i get 7 cents back a litre, which is nice.

it all seems to be about the same. i started using 20% biodiesel and it makes a big difference. noticable more power and my engine gets a good cleaning at the same time.

Re: Good Place to Buy Diesel

I started brewing it myself in my garage a few months ago. I have a japanese restaurant down the street that has great oil, no water, no burnt beyond crap. some lye from a soap making hobby store and methanol from crappy tire and viola (plus a few careful measurements, settling time, washing, filtering etc).

Its coming in around 40 cents a litre for me to make, but i'm still just playing with it.

In calgary there is coop where you can brew your own with expert help and use their supplies (saves cost).

Never been there but heard about them

Is the fuel at the big truck stops and better/different? I know some of them require card access... I bet its not impossible to get such a card.

its the same fuel, just the charge it directly to their business account. what you want is a place that goes through a lot of diesel (sitting for a long time is not good for it). So if mom and pop gas bar down the street has diesel and they fill the underground tank once a year I'd stay away. In pick up truck filled alberta i wouldnt be too worried anywhere but busier is better.

BART - I'm only making 10-15 litres at a time but if your up in edmonton and want to try it out let me know.

you sure you get more power with biodiesel? i heard mixed opinions, i think a dyno on tdiclub showed a 1hp loss.

it may just be the warmer weather in the last few weeks, or the new fuel filter and air filter and i cleaned out the connections on my MAF. BioD does have a higehr cetane value (or it may well be psychological, i'm a happy bio driver??!)

It may be the smoother feel of the car. As soon as i out it in it kind of smoothed out the engine noise.

Not totally sure and I have no actual evidence either way.
