  • Front Suspension Mystery Squeek

I've got an 03 Jetta GLI that has been in the shop 3 times with no solution. Hoping someone may have bumped into this.

I get consistent front drivers side squeek when I go over small bumps like man hole covers or pavement pits at 40 km/h+. Can't here it with windows up, but when the windows are down... Driving me crazy

When I go slow over speed bumps and curbs I hear the normal gas discharge and no squeek.

I've had it into the dealer 3 times:
First time they repleaced the sway bar bushings.
Second time they lubbed the door seals and adjusted the door hinges.
Third time they realigned and tightened the oil pan guard (or something like that).

    Still have the squeek!

    Anyone run into this?

    Van G

    Aftermarket or OEM suspension?

    Some things just squeek.

Be thankful its not a clunk.

squeaking probably the bushings, lube those, although only aftermarket ones should squeak. the gas sound you hear might be that big black plastic thing under your car, especially if its hanging lower then it should, that will rub against the speed bump, and give you that 'discharge' sound, thats what mine does.

The gas sound is the suspension discharging, at least the dealer mechanic agreed with me. I'll check to see if anything is scraped or low.

I'm assuming they would have lubed the bushings when they did the other work but I'll ask when I call in to report the problem persists.

            VW use cheap bushings.

I think I've had my bushings replaced 3 times (all warantee) and each time the squeak goes away for about a week...but then it comes back...

What after market bushings should I consider to replace the OEM? If I'm doing the bushings, is there anything else I should logically consider wih this job?

Will VW pay for service under warranty if I supply the bushings?

How is the rest of the OEM suspension for longevity? I've found the handling to be OK but I'm sure it can be improved upon if I want it.

Mopac and there is a performance shop (the hell if I can remember the name) on Center Street just north of 22ave. They have good service and give good pricing and have access to complete poly-kits for most makes and models of vehicle. Definately a good idea if you don't run stock suspension. A complete kit can run anywhere from 150 - 200 dollars...

Add that to the cost of my suspension and it makes me more depressed.. :(

Careful about using the poly bushings....They will increase the harshness/transmitted vibration that you feel on rough road surfaces. The poly bushings also make way more noise that rubber bushings. Many vehicle that go with the poly bushing have to end up drilling and tapping a grease nipple so that you can lube them to keep the noise down.

That's what I've heard too...if squeaking of bushings is the problem, the stiffer polyurethane bushings may only aggravate it....

At least you VW guys don't have the same problems with suspension my generation of Audi does.....my high tech control arms forged from aluminum from only one of the Cosworth aluminum plants has a feature none of the newer control arms have (even in cheapo cars like Hyundai or Kia).....they can spontaneously BREAK!

Those Polyurethane bushings can help on handling because they are stiff.

You’ve got a B5 Audi right? Hay, I drive a B5 Passat too. Definitely feel your pain caused I beat the car like crazy on the track. Second set of all 10 control arms for my ride recently. I think the generation you’ve said is still current. VW/Audi uses cheap parts that’s all I can say.

Well, I guess you put RACE springs. Lower it too much can kill them faster, even you drive like normal.
