  • Dealer Service Frustration

So here's the deal.... I take my car (01 2.0 STD Golf) in this AM because I'm having occasional problems with my tranny. It's making a "thunk" noise going into second and it sometimes won't go into first at all.

I bought my car "certified pre-owned" about 8 weeks ago.
Dealer just called. They can't find the problem and want to charge me a half hour labour ($45) because they couldn't find the problem.

I'm waiting to hear back from the service manager because this is ludicrous. Do they not understand that the problem isn't ALWAYS there, however, it's still a problem...

    Any suggestions....

I suggest you tell them to take their 30min labour and shove it because thats horse crap! Why pay for something they havent id'd?!

Also, they cant tell if warranty is going to cover it or not until they find out what it is, so just hang tight until they know what the problem is

      Re: Dealer Service Frustration

They have suggested that I take service person with me for spin to find the problem. My reply was that I don't care if he drives around with me for a week, they will find it and fix it.

BTW, we are talking about 5th ave here.

I'm just waiting for service manager to get in. I imagine he'll be in at around 12 as they're open till 8.

that is why i prefer northland!
but normally they say they will charge you just in case they cant find the problem, if they do, and its warranty, you dont pay, warranty does.

That's WHEN they do, not IF!

I suspect it's just shift linkage, but I'm not touching it, that's what warranty is for in the first place.
          countdown to noon.

Maybe if 5th Ave continue to be jerks, I'll take it to Northland.

I thought a couple people on here actually had this problem and basically just had to get the shifter linkage adjusted? I'm sure you'll get it figured out, sorry about the troubles.

                  Re: Dealer Service Frustration

Well, I've talked to the service manager and he explained the industry flat rate... blah blah blah.... then said.... "but that's all irrelevant anyway"
I asked why, he said there was a part on order for it. He didn't know any more than that as he called me right away after coming on shift. Playing phonetag with the service advisor right now....

                    Re: Dealer Service Frustration

Talked to the service advisor. The shop Foreman drove the car and found the issue with first gear.

"Normally it's not enough to do a repair, but we are in the business to serve, we will do it"

They have a new shift linkage cable on order for me.

We'll see what happens. Thanks for listening/reading so far!

Ken Webster is the Service manager. I have not had any problems with him through the process. He wasn't in all morning when this all started to go down.

if you have problems getting into first, try putting it into second, then try first again. that helps sometimes. i think our cars may have some sort of interlock feature in case you try going from fourth to first by accident.

I would say he pissed off me when I took my car there to get the window clips fixed when he told me up front that I may have to pay for a couple hours labour when I knew for sure that there was a recall on the problem. Don't bull $hit me when I now about every recall they have.
