  • front valence removal/install

I got my GLI valence on thurs, and it's currently being painted so I'll pick it up and install it tommorrow afternoon

Any tips on how to remove the original valence, and how to install the new one? By the looks of it, there are only a few bolts on the sides and then it's clipped in all along the bumper.

    any tips and tricks?

I didn't remove the bumper. Wrapped a screwdriver in wire tape, and went from one corner to the other, prying each tab out. Was kind of a pain - probably easier to remove the bumper.

well i found with my stock valence it was hard to get the very end side clips in properly without the bumper off but yea you can do it on the car.. i dunno it only takes 5 minutes to remove the front bumper plus you can clean your CAI filter, intercooler, etc while its off

LOL that was the most useless 'tips and tricks' post evah. hehehehe

I wasn't going to take the bumper off, but I guess I will now. Seems like it's easier than lying on your back!

I just took my bumper off this week (with help, thanks guys). It probably takes 10 - 15 minutes to do. I can't remember how many screws there are exactly, but I think there are 3 in the wheel well, 4 under the front grill (which needs to be removed), and 1 in each lower grill area. It's best to have some help, although i'm sure many of the guys here have done it by themselves. It's WAY easier to work with the front valence when the bumper is off.

PS: Oh yeah, you need to remove your sidemarkers and detach the lights from them to get the bumper off.

Haha... well yeah, for you Euro rubstrip and blacked-out-sidemarker guys you can skip this step.

original, which everybody has seen a bazillion times...

And I hope these guys are some famous mexicans or something, because now the value of my car (well, at least the front bumper) is worth a fortune!

Biggest reccomendation ever: take the front bumper off. I tried to wiggle it off for a little bit with the bumper on the car, but it was a PITA. Once the bumper was off, it was still a PITA but at least we could see what we were doing! Thanks for the tip guys!

yeah, I can only get away with a few things at a time

Bilstens and H&R are on the list though, right up near the top!
