You are totaly forgetting the fact that diesel oil needs to be able to stay at the proper viscosity to move soot suspended where I don't see that being good for a gas engine at high temps. I am not getting in to an amsoil vs everything else as every time I read an amsoil post anywhere that is all that happens. This is like the time at wal-mart when the guy on the counter refused to do an anti-freeze flush as diesels took different a different type! ie retarded.

Ok this has got nothing to do with amsoil. A diesel and gas engine can and do use the same oil (when it is synthetic) this is not new and has been happening for years. I'm not saying a huge Mac truck and a 1.8t should use the same oil, but a gas engine and a new small efficient diesel do/can use the same oil as there is not nearly as much blow by in new diesels. Therefore the only requirement is that it has good protection at high temps and low temps to protect the turbo bearings. Again this is only with synthetic oil.

Okay well i just phoned 5th SC and then NL again and guess what 5/40 boys! So I asked for the service manager at NL but he wasn't in today so I left him a voicemail and was like WTF is up with this..

SC told me if I was just switching to synthetic now they would put in 5/50 but ONLY if the car was brand new.. if i was previously using 5/40 they would continue to use it they said.. also the guy at SC i said well the 5/50 isn't EVEN on the approved oil list that VW released from the oil sludge recall!!! he was like hrmmm i dunno

I'm really interested in what NL is going to tell me on this one

okay well NL got back to me.. they screwed up. 5w50 is for the passats now i guess and the mk4s still get 5w40.. so they apologized and have me in the computer for a free oil change in the spring. they offered to change it this week to 5w40 but thats a waste of my time and their time. So I will drive this stuff for another month.

5/50 will be fine - if you get a free synthetic oil change out of it all the better. Only the 15/50 would have been a problem.
