What you have heard about switching to synthetic in an older car is totaly incorrect - it's an old wives tale. You can switch to synthetic at anytime without worrying about your seals leaking. If you want even you can switch back to dino oil after using a synthetic. I will be carrying the full line of synthetic products from Amsoil.
ps Blair could you please im the cost to get a banner at the top of the page please. Thanks

Well it is more expensive than mobil 1 yes but not by a lot.
The "6 month crap" I was explaining was that because synthetic oil does not break down/ burn off like conventional oil it can last a lot longer. This means that filtration becomes vastly more important. With the proper filtration synthetic oil can go 40,000 km with out a change. However you will need to change the filter (If using a higher quality amsoil filter) every six months (20,000km). European manufacturers having been taking advantage of the extended drain intervals with synthetics for years. It is only in North America that the consumer is held hostage with the notion that synthetics need to be changed that the same interval as dino oils.
Here is an article explaining extended drain intervals
http://www.amsoil.com/lit/lng_article/index.htm
The short version is
With AMSOIL filter and oil 40,000kms (1year) oil changes with six month (20,000km) filter changes.
With AMSOIL oil and oem filter 40,000kms (1 year) oil changes with oem spec filter changes

Re: What brand of oil do you use?
I might have to look into the Amsoil for my TDI. I have read arguements about it before. I have a friend who does oil anaylis for Finning and we where talking about how oil particulates are the #1 reason for engine wear. So the oil may last longer but the filters need to be changed more often (and it is super easy on my car )Name: Brent
His: '04 TDI Golf Mods: None If it's smoken it ain't broken
Family: '15 Jetta Sportwagon
Fun car: '92 Blue Karmann Crabby Cabby Mods: Coils, front and rear swaybars, LED interior lights and some other old things.
