Mine is a 2000, all its needed is a $60 Mass air flow sensor, they are pretty solid cars, every type of car has it problems.

WHere di you get a MAF for $60? was it the 2.0L one?
As for the rest don't worry, if the window falls in (which it will edit: will not happen if 2002+) just take it to the stealership and tell them to fix it. It is a known problem that is fixed under a "special" warranty. I took mine in and they did both front doors (but not the rears ) Montgomery Auto is a great place in calgary to get parts. I would also have the dealer or someone in your area with a vag-com to turn down the EGR settings as it will slow the onset of gunk buildup in the intake manifold which robs a bit of power (not a big problem for the 2004 PD TDI engine).
As for the rest be sure to take it out and bag the hell out of it to clean out the gunk as I am sure your wife will drive it err like a woman. Book mark TDIclub.com as your website and use it as a bible as it is the best dang site for info about TDI's ANYWHERE. There are guys there that know the TDI engine better then any dealer mechanic period. Plus feeel free to ask questions around here we have a couple TDI lovers.

              Re: New Jetta Tdi Paranoia

Other than these guys already trying to sell you engine modifications, you should be okay.

As mentioned, the newer years have fixed the couple of recall items that were covered under warranty anyhow. If you look hard enough, you can find a car owner who has had problems with any car. That is the trouble, people look really hard them seem surprised when they find stories. Obviously, on the internet you can find stories of all kinds of things

              The car will be awesome.

Would you happen to have the code for the EGR setting? Ive been meaning to do that, got the vag and everything

Really? Did it have the plastic or metal pieces? I have also heard it can depend on what time of the year and the factory the car has been built it, It is a pain but atleast something you don't have to pay to get fixed.

                        Re: New Jetta Tdi Paranoia

Yeah, something as small as that is not a big issue with me at all, when it comes down to it ALL makes and models have their little quirks, and if something as small as a window regulator is going to stop you from purchasing a vehicle you are only cheating yourself out of a nice car.

BTW I am not sure if mine had metal or plastic, my car was one of the first 2003's if that makes any difference.

Re: New Jetta Tdi Paranoia THANKS

THANKS to all for the input. I realize any car could have a couple of web based complaints. There did seem like a lot though. But your responses have relaxed me quite a bit.

My wife loves this car. I am still getting used to the diesel rumble but am glad that it is so economical on fuel - and it is very repsonsive and handles beutifully. also does 100 mph without so much as a rattle

For all the full dirt on a great source of info on the diesels you should also check out www.tdiclub.com. It the full services info source (dont be put off by the problems these people list. They are 1 or 2 cars out of the hundreds of thousands produced, just all in 1 place)

                              Cheers
