  • Harsh Ride

I finally installed the Koni adjustables in my Jetta and I can't say I'm too excited about the ride quality. The ride is more firm on the soft setting than the factory struits/shocks. Can anyone tell me how the FK Kit ride quaity is?
    Thanks

Yep, always a trade off. Its impossible to have excellent handling and keep the factory correct marshmallow-like ride at the same time. OEM suspension on the 20ae and 337's is as good as it gets imo.

that sounds about right chad.. from what people tell me (vortex) bill, chris, etc in the club the stock 'real' sport suspension is really good.. even the vortex gli dealy on the mainpage said matted with a rear sway its the best of comfort and handling.. i guess the R32 might be even better though but i dont' think we could use it?

Prolly a no with the R32. A guy should be able to pick up a used 337/20ae/GLI setup on the vortex for not a lot of $ though.

Did you expect otherwise? Lets face it, the factory suspension is like riding on a marshmallow. You will never even approach stock ride softness with any sport aftermarket suspension.

For a nice ride you want air bags

I had the middle of the line FK coilovers......they were absolute CRAP!!! The ride was so harsh it hurt.

Factory sport suspension to go into my TDi....

Already feel harsh ride? If you don’t find any handling benefits on your performance suspension setup then I guess it is time to sell those Konis.

Performance suspension is not for everyone.

Koni make good struts. I do like them myself.

I am not at a gay a$$ ride height and I have the 20AE on my TDI. The ride is a little harsher but it handles 100% better.
If you want an awesome handeling soft suspension for a TDI you are going to have to go with a Shine setup. You can even get them so you can still be at factory height.

I have the Eibach Pro Kit, the ride was okay with the factory struits. I was hoping to use just the springs, but my struits with 100K on them didn't like it too much and tended to bottom from time to time. I had Bags on my old S-10 with adjustable shocks, it was low and like riding on the "Marshmellow" I was hoping the the softest setting would be the same idea, but I guess you don't know till you buy.

You have to take into fact that our cars are heavier and sit lower then any other model so bottoming out is a horrible thing (unless you have a metal underbelly plate)

                              Re: Harsh Ride

Bottoming out with the Pro Kit? It is quite hard to believe how much the springs can bring the car down. IMO it is not much. So, any tires scrap marks inside the wheel wells or the front fenders metal crushed out resulted by making fast corners?

Shocks don’t hold the car the springs does.

Or might be going too fast through speed bumps?

                              If none. Don’t worry.
