  • Red 50K mark on speedo

I have always wondered why the 50Km/h mark on the spedeometer is red?

Re: Red 50K mark on speedo

I just assumed one of 2 things...

    1) 50km is a common speed when cruising through residentials and busy streets, so the red helps enforce that when monitoring speed.

    2) Isn't that the speed the cruise control becomes active?

It's also the lowest speed you can drive while still in 5th.

My 91 golf had 3 red marks, all placed at common speed limits, thats what I presumed they were for.....

I always wondered that as well. I just assumed the same as everyone else also. That must be right if everyone else came up with the same conclusion on their own. Kinda like how if you picture a carrot in your mind, most people will picture it pointing down and to the left....I have no idea what I'm trying to say
