  • DV Help Needed...

Currently there's nothing wrong with my DV, its still the stock one (which though a crappy diaphram design, does not appear to be failing because I hold boost just fine), but I am looking to replace it nonetheless...I know Simon carries those awesome Hyperboost HX ones (which was my option number 1) but the fact of the matter is that my Audi has the DV in a horrible location. My MY1997 has it crammed higher in the engine compartment than other years of Audis (which have it pretty much at the bottom and thus is accessible from underneath quite easily). Mine is only accessible by removing my freakin' headlight assembly on the passenger side and jamming my hands in there. Thus, due to difficulty or removal and install, I need one that requires the least maintenance. The Bailey DV is a maintenance free one and has been around a lot longer than most of the others for our engine (they claim to be the original professional racing solution for the VAG 1.8t engine), but I don't think its readily available here (or is it?? C1 doesn't have 'em, but I haven't checked Tunerworks yet, and I don't know if Simon can get his hands on some)....whereas the Forge DV's and all the Hyperboost ones require regular maintenance intervals....

    Help! Please??!!

PS. In terms of cost, everything is pretty darn similar. The Forge and Hyperboost ones are less than a $50 difference but I don't know about the Bailey...(its 160USD but I dunno what we can get it for here)....

IMO all of the piston-type valves do not "need" to be serviced, this is simply an option.

Forge also makes the race dv which is of a diaphragm design. It requires less maintenance than the standard piston type and will also probably last longer than the oem dv that your car came with.

I have read on Vortex, people have torn through a couple of the diaphragms in these...

Yup seen that too kor. I think Forge will replace up to 2 of their diaphram ones.

Go piston and dont worry about it busting. Re-grease the sucka once a while which takes a few mins and your set. Reverse piston style DV's and you got a screaming dead bird under your car. " Chirrrrrrrrrp "

I think re-greasing is the whole issue, he can't get it out very easilly.

Anyhow I have had mine in for about 18 months without servicing it.

Hmmm. Guess I'm glad I went for the piston type then. I was originally planning on going with the diaphragm type for my setup.

I'd have to agree. I've had mine on for a few months now and I looked at it yesterday. It looked the same as the day I put it in.

Had my forge for several months and no compaints.

I recently reversed it, and seem to be holding a bit more boost. And yea, screamin parakeet sound to boot.

I've had my hyperboost for 1.5 years now, and have never had a problem. I regrease it twice a year.

                      works great!!

Thanks for all the help...! I'll probably get the Forge one...seems that more of the Audi guys run the Forge than the Hyperboost...could just be brand loyalty or what not though.....
