  • New Beetle DSG

I've been looking at a couple cars for a work vehicle and based on the insurance raping I have narrowed it down to the following.

    Passat Wagon diesel
    Jetta Wagon diesel
    New Beetle diesel.

The NB has come to the head of the list as it is distinctive, cheaper, and quicker.

Anyway, I noticed on the VW.ca site that you can get them with the 6 speed DSG. Does anyone have any experience with that tranny? I despise automatics, but that thing seems like it would be a killer compromise.

Wow, you can buy a TDI PD bug with 6 speed DSG??

    Thats awesome!

And you can get it with OEM HIDs!

That would be a fun car, with a new beetle body kit and a few engine mods...

I assume its the same tranny from the TT, so ask Canadian Turbo.

Well I guess I can put my 2 cents in since I have driven in a DSG several times. It is a very cool setup and is very quick for an auto style shifter. The TT has 3 modes, fully auto (which is boring shift at 2 grand), then there is the fully manual with stick or paddles and then sport mode. The sport mode is like driving a race car keeps the revs high and does sweet down shifts but not very practicle for the city. Overall it is very cool setup and I like it but not sure if I prefer it over a manual. However I have driven it with a 3.2 V6 and you are talking diesel so it will differ for sure, but it is probably one of the best manumatic trannies out there.

I would totally let my wife rock a NB TDI DSG... that way I could still drive it, but pretend its not mine when people ask.

Probably mounted longitudinally as in the Passat.

                          Re: New Beetle DSG

The NB GLS has the 180 hp 1.8t according to VW's site.

I'm a little pissed about the trim levels on the NB, actually. The NB gets fun doo-dads that you can't get in the GTI (which is supposed to be VW's premier compact car).

It almost makes me want a 1.8t. But not quite.

                            Re: New Beetle DSG

I've secretly kinda liked the beetle since they came out with the 1.8T in it back in the day, with lower springs and colour matched wheels. I don't think I'd ever buy one, because they are pricey and well....Not very practical but once in a while when you see one modded right, they do look pretty cool. But it comes and goes, in a couple months I'll probably hate them again, who knows.

EDIT: I like the, "yea, it's my girlfriends/wifes car" excuse, that's brilliant, Although it wouldn't work for me she's Anti "Chick" car. She wants a VR6!

See, I would be using it for work and it would have decals and whatnot on it.

A 'character' car is a good excuse, right?

                              Right?
