  • Radar Detector Ques?

OK So with all the Highway drivin I do I decided to invest in a "RD" I was lookin at the "Escort 8500 X50" or the "Escort Solo 2" I was just wondering if anyone has any info on the Solo 2 Cordless one as that seems like a mighty fine idea to me....

The V1 is out of the question because it looks like it's from the 70's.

Still looks like it should come with a 8 track for FREE, and different mags have different shootouts... 8500 wins sumthines and V1 wins some....

V1 is prolly the best out there but cant get over the looks

If you dont like the way it looks, try finding a way around that. I know some BMW guys who hardwired them into their cars, and manipulated the diplay to fit into the side of their rear-view mirror. Looked really clean, and ultra-stealth. If you're feeling lucky, try it.... if not, go with the cordless. the only thing I dont like about my "RD" is that I find the cord annoying.

The cordless ones depend on battery power, and as the battery gradually wears down they gradually have less and less sensitivity. Or so I have read...

Most handy thing I ever picked up was a double A and triple A battery charger and 30 batteries for each!

Inital cost sucks but once you have it it rocks! I got a free 4 batt. charger with a mini disc player I bought so it wasnt so bad but I never have a lack of fully charged batteries (this way you could change them once a week in the radar detector)

Yeah, I would do a V1, and pick the guts apart...had it that way once, not too difficult....think of the custom factor in that!

                  x50 all the way!

I like voice alerts but x50 dont have em. The new Bel one looks kinda cheesy but performs pretty good.

V1 is a good radar but how old is that fucking thing.

" The Valentine One is a highly sensitive radar detector--good enough that we declared it the winner of our 2000 Automobile Magazine shootout--but it's no longer top dog. The world has changed since it was designed in 1991. The Apple IIsi also was hot stuff that year but Apple knew better than to continue peddling the same box. They replaced it with smaller, faster, user-friendlier models packed with advanced features. "

In the book for my RD it says to never use rechargable batteries.

Radartest.com recieves funding from most companies other than V1. Check out the vortex, they have admitted to it in the past.

Both the V1 and 8500 are solid detectors. Never get a "cordless" detector unless you really need one. They never perform as well as their "wired" counterparts. Personally, I'm still using my Whistler 1490 that I bought like 6 years ago. Back in the day, it was the best thing, 2 years running. Anyhow, still use it all the time and have absolutely no complaints... well, except for the X-band alerts, which I would like to turn off. If the new detectors weren't so bloody expensive... I would totally upgrade. Plus the "Blue" X50 looks like it would match the "blue" VW interior lighting quite nicely.

                            Anyway... Happy Radar Hunting!

Thx I think the 8500 will find a home in my car, unless I can find solid proof that the Cordless one works as well
