Same thing with pagers. Apparently, "normal" batteries sustain a fairly flat consistent voltage for most of their life, then drop off suddenly when dying. A rechargeable starts to slowly lose voltage right from the start. It's this reduced voltage that messes with stuff with antennas. I'm not one for not getting pages (or radar warnings).

I recently bought a V1 and it has already paid for itself. X50 is also an excellent detector as well. Check out these websites they have lots of information:

        and

        http://www.jammertests.com

Hope that helps with your decision

Hands down V1 rocks. I have a V1 and it is ultra. Plus, they do work to improve the V1. That being said, in five years when they have much better technology you can send in your V1 plus $!50 US (approx). They basically send you a new one in the mail. It will be the last radar detector you every buy, that's a guarantee. I've never, ever been let down by the V1. Forget the looks, get the V1

I work at Best Buy and sell both of the units that you are looking at. The wireless is a nice feature but can have several problems. I have one that is wireless capable but I hard wired it into my car. The problem with the wireless is that if the batteries are even somewhat weak then the signal that it sends out is going to be weak. The distance that is capable of the unit is not the same when using batteries compared to a constant power.

                Did somebody say batteries?!!?

Yes, some rechargable batteries tend to lose their oomph as they wear out, but some kinds maintain a very even level of power output until they need charging. NiMh (Nickel metal hydride) cells last longer than regular alkaline batteries and are FAR superior to NiCd (nickel cadmium) rechargables. NiMh are much more environmentally friendly and can be refreshed to near new condition with a decent charger, even after many, many charges. Even better than NiMh for capacity are Li-Ion (lithium ion) cells. Be careful though as not all electronic gadgets like them (SSSSizzzle) .

Sorry this post is so long . . . the long and short of it is that batteries have come a looong way in just the past three years, but nothing beats being plugged in if you can work it that way.
