  • Spring install day

I figure the more the merrier, as Alex and I are putting on our FK kits tomorrow afternoon/evening. If anyone wants to help out, point and laugh, or bring some of those weird tools that make the job go easier, you're welcome to join us.

Pointing and laughing is gentle encouragement.....Frustrated men with tools anger easily!!

Well, all went well! It took a while with the pass strut, but once we figured the best way to do it out, it was much faster for the rest of it! Both cars are now looking HOT....I didn't take as many pics as I thought I would, but time was a small issue....I can say that overall I got a reasonable drop, as did Jeff! Handling is far better aswell...No clearance issues yet with the 02 and 55kit either.....We would have been lost without the impact driver, plus we made a spreader tool which saved time.....

So how did you guys do the passenger side? drop the subframe? If anyone dropped the subframe and got an alignment, let me know how far you where out. I want to know if the extra hour I spent getting it out was worth not dropping the subframe.

No subframe dropping! And really, after we figured the first passenger side out on mine, it took us a fraction the time on Jeff's, with very little spring compression, and sway bar disconnection....The sway bar seemed to be the key to it, the drivers side came out no compression at all needed! I think most of the work in the end is removing and transferring the springs and caps to the new strut...

              Re: Spring install day

OK, so I went out for a bit of a cruise last night. A few high G on and off ramps, and a couple trips up and down some rough roads, trying to speed up the suspension settling process. I end up at my friend's place in Douglasdale, and my front tires are nearly tucking? Less than a finger gap in the front, and a little over a finger gap in the rear. I'm hoping that the settling is done, and most definitely glad I picked up the 35/40 and not the 55/40. Has yours dropped much further Alex?

dude no way in hell you have a 1 finger gap up front with 18's unless you got the 55 kit.. kor (kris) apparantly has the 35 and its the 55 for sure cuz he's way lower than 1.5"

Our numbers on the springs were different aswell.....I haven't driven much, so mine has settled a little, but not near that much....I did get much more of an initial drop though.....

Yeah, I'm wondering if maybe I got the 1.8T kit my mistake. The front is barely a 1 finger gap, and the rear is 1.5 or a real tight 2 finger gap. It's definitely lower than I expected. Alex, the rear wheel well arch is now a tad lower than the mark you had on the box for the front after the install! I'll post up some pics after the weekend so you guys can see just how low this thing is. If it settles more over the weekend I may have to give QMR a call and see about part numbers on the springs to verify I got the right kit.

Right one good to know. I am sure if I ever do it again I can get it all done in a couple hours. Did you just coil the spring down around the strut? I found that was the easiers way to get the passenger side to clear.

Hmmm, no just left it as it was on the strut...never thought about coiling it down off the strut...

Adding a couple of pics....I sit there and think it isn't much lower, then I see my old pics and notice it.....

                            First, some install pics.....

Look at the ghetto rigging of tools to make them work.......safety is our #1 concern!

Wow, I do think I have less wheel gap!!!

No, some after pics....Don't have any of Jeff's car, it was very late.....
