Unreliable dub?

Today I payed off a huge bill for a new bypass valve and coolant sensor out of warranty. I have had so many things happen out of warranty and I am wondering if this is a worthwhile car. I hate to rant like this but VW is disappointing me and rest assured I will never buy another.

Some people think that "these are the breaks of owning a car" but there are 4 other cars in our household and none of them have had this many problems...not even the 22 year old one.

Anyone else thinking of selling?

I can feel your pain bro. When I first got my 00 Jetta I made frequent trips to the dealership. I am angry about why that many mechanicals failure happened on it because the mechanical problem is a big thing for me. I had all problems fixed and I maintenance it well. I then start modding like crazy. I guess the most important point of owning the car is the passion. These cars are a lot more complicated then the comparable price cars on the market, therefore, fixing cost more.

At this point the car is already making you sad then why not considers a trade on something else you like. You will hate it even more if anything come up.

One day, I will end up like the situation like you but I already know what car next with less trouble and many mod parts available.

The question is whether or not people who are paying close to 30,000 dollars for a car should be going through this, I personally don't think so. Plus I am not in the mood to downgrade after selling so it is sort of a rock and a hard place, because the money I will get will not be able to afford anything nicer or as nice.

The build quality is poor, the case is not open and shut there are many other things to think about.

Buying my 'dub used, with almost 40,000kms on it in less than a year of ownership, I kind of expected to have some mechanical issues come up. However, I am happy to say that so far everything has been excellent! Then again, its only been 3 months.

The best thing so far about owning a VW has been the service and community. Its really been great, I don't think there are many other cars I would have so much fun with. There is also that potential for customizing your own car, giving it your own personality. Thats a great thing that you can't quantify in dollars.

Previously I owned a reasonably-new Chevy, which I would never buy again. If I hadn't had a warranty I would have spent $5000 in repairs over only about 3 years. It was in the dealership about 7 times for major parts replacements. Horrible things just 'happened' with that car... like once it 'misted' engine coolant into the cabin (don't ask). It was also recalled about 5 times, and the 'driving experience' was really terrible compared to my VW!

I am a computer-guy, and one of the major issues people always talk to me about is the reliability of computers. Why is my computer always crashing? Why doesn't it work properly, like my toaster does? Well, the answer to that question is that your computer is a billion times as complicated as the toaster. Everyone uses their computer diffrently, so there is no possible way for quality control to assure 100% reliability. Statistically, things are just always going to go wrong.

I think that my approach to cars is the same as my approach to computers. Expect to have to live with a little bit of maintenance. Learn as much about it as you can, try to keep it in good shape, sometimes you just gotta roll with the punches.

Of course, the day I can afford an Inifini G35 I am gone Not any time soon.
