I'm a proud owner of a new Jetta with the 1.8t engine and I am thinking about installing a APR chip. I will be putting a lot of miles on my car and would like to retain my warranties. Does this make my warranty useless? I would appreciate any info on this and other upgrades that I can make. Thanks

Re: 04 1.8t Jetta
Well congrats on the new car. The issue with chips and warranties is often debated though, and is usually different with everone you talk to.
Legally, the dealership can only revoke your warranty if something that went wrong is directly affected by the chip. Ie. if your brakes fail, the chip doesnt void your brake warranty. however, if your turbo fails, the chip WILL void the turbo warranty because it makes the turbo work harder.
Often times its best not to tell the dealership you even have a chip, and put it in "stock" mode when you take it in for servicing.Simon
